Republic Day India : India became a free country after 15 Aug, 1947 and Later India declared itself a Sovereign , Democratic, and Republic state with the adoption of the Constitution on January 26, 1950. On that Historical day, a 21-gun salute and the unfurling of the Indian National Flag by Dr. Rajendra Prasad announce the historic birth of the Indian Republic.

Indian Republic Day falls on January 26 every year. Its Like festivals for all Indians. They celebrate that days with full of energy. India went through many trials and tribulations before attaining the status of a prosperous nation and granting its citizens freedom. Everything start in 1947, when India gained independence from the British Empire. A draught of the Constitution was developed and submitted to the Constituent Assembly in November 1947. When the Constitution became law, it also replaced the Government of India Act, establishing India as a democratic republic. 

Symbols

Republic Day India  embodies the spirit of independent India. On this date, military parades, displays of military equipment, and the national flag are important symbols. The Indian national flag is a horizontal tricolour with equal proportions of deep saffron (kesaria) at the top, white in the middle, and dark green at the bottom.

The width to length ratio of the flag is two to three. A navy-blue wheel in the centre of the white band represents the chakra. Its design is based on the wheel found on Ashoka’s Sarnath Lion Capital’s abacus. It has 24 spokes and a diameter similar to the width of the white band.

What Do People Do?

Republic Day India : In India, much effort is expended in organising events and celebrations on Republic Day. In New Delhi and the state capitals, large military parades are held. The parades feature representatives from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as traditional dance troupes.

A grand parade is held in New Delhi, and the event begins with India’s prime minister laying a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate to honour soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for their country. During the parade in New Delhi, India’s president takes the military salute, while state governors do so in their respective capitals. On Republic Day, the president is joined by a foreign head of state. Bravery awards and medals are given to members of the armed forces as well as civilians.

 Armed forces helicopters then fly over the parade area, raining rose petals on the audience. Schoolchildren take part in the parade as well, dancing and singing patriotic songs. Military personnel also demonstrate motorcycle rides. The parade concludes with a “fly past” by the Indian Air Force, in which fighter planes fly past the dais, saluting the president symbolically. These emit smoke trails in the colours of the Indian flag.

 There are numerous national and local cultural programmes focusing on India’s history and culture. Children play an important role in these programmes. Many children receive candy or small toys as gifts. A prime minister’s rally is also held around this time of year, as is the Lok Tarang – National Folk Dance Festival, which takes place every January 24-29.

There are three categories of awards given on Republic Day India are – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.

Padma Vibhushan award is for unusual and commanding great respect service.
Padma Bhushan for “commanding great respect service of a high order”.
Padma Shri for “commanding great respect service”. Padma Shri is India’s fourth highest civilian award.
